Welcome to this Week's Edition of Red Things on TuesdayHello, Friend! If you're new to the Tam Integration mailing list, Red Things on Tuesday is a glimpse into our journey. We're continually growing and exploring, just like you. This collection of books, music, teachings, psychedelic ephemera, and the like that we think is meaningful and have been enjoying. It gets sent out on most Tuesdays. The name is based on something a Vedic astrologer told Daniel (me!) once, making this a sadhana . We appreciate you participating in it. If you're interested in joining one of our integration circles, visit the website here or our Social Link Tree Here. Men's integration circle is now every Tuesday! The Mastery of Childlike IntegrationWhen I walk through nature with the small boy, it opens me in so many ways. Our play and exploration seem exactly like what I need to move my body, mind, and spirit naturally toward wholeness. Last week, with great delight, we built faerie houses. I highly recommend taking on this highly sophisticated and magical architectural endeavor, no matter how complex and labor-intensive it might seem. I'll give you instructions. But if it's too much for you, I'll understand. There is no shame in it. If I didn't have a kid with me, there is no way I would have been able to complete it on my own. A Faerie House is, quite simply, a house for a faerie or similar mystical character that we might find in our visionary treks through the natural landscape. We build them in tree nooks, against rocks, or some other suitably cozy spot. Location, location, location. You can use almost any natural materials you like. You can't pick, break, or kill anything. You can use leaves that you find on the forest floor, but you can't pull them off a tree. You can use a feather, but you certainly can't pull one off a bird. You can't use man-made materials. No broken glass or old bottle caps. Just pack those out and recycle them. Faerie houses are exercises in impermanence, constant change, evolution, and creativity. If stick and bark collapses or moss gets carried away by a critter, so be it. Start again. There is no shortage of new supplies or new locations, which means it's also a practice in abundance. You're surrounded by the tools of the trade. You just have to look around, high, low, under, and over. It stretches your perspective and encourages you to be curious. It might even slow you down a little and teach you a little patience. If you really want to enter the magic of this story, it's also an act of service. You're taking time to serve the forest kin, which they don't get much of these days. Offering your labor and devotion to the small folk is a great kindness. They aren't likely to forget and might just bless your heart with gladness. In all honesty, I hadn't considered all of these lessons when I started writing. I just enjoyed reflecting on this fun way to connect with nature and be playfully creative. I know most of us need to get out from behind the screen, stop thinking so much, and get into our bodies. But I'm glad to be that these lessons of the woods made themselves known. It makes so much sense (to me, anyway) why this might be a good post-ceremony activity. We often come out of ceremony with a desire for a new way of being. We're inspired to create a new life in a new way. So what a wonderful integration experiment. You can bring your whole new self to this activity of selfless creativity with all of the sincerity that you would like to bring to your life moving forward. And still have fun! What a blessing! There you have it. You know all you need to know now. You can go forth and construct slowly, carefully, and joyfully. If you make one, post it to Instagram and tag me in it, please. I'd like to see it. And in a rare bit of personal posting, I'll share our recent project in my stories for the next day. (Here's my account if you haven't seen it) A History of Set and SettingI recently read Ido Hartogsohn's paper on the history of set and setting and took notes on Twitter. Maybe you'll get a kick out of it. Maybe it will inspire you to read the whole thing. It's good. Post Eclipse VibesThe eclipse was big news, and it's been a heavy time. Perhaps now that it's passed, the energy in the air might shift. Below is a song that, to me, vibrates with the possibility of something new. It's by my teacher, David Newman. He led my first yoga teacher training. I owe him a debt of gratitude that I can never hope to repay, and can only come close to by sharing with you.
